Today we didn’t only have to deal with the wind but slime as well. All the local streams drain into the Kraai, with the dropping water level, the river has deposited silt and a lot of dead filamentous algae. This makes the rocks extremely slippery and Stefan did well not to fill his waders. All the algae made nymph fishing impossible (have to clean your hook on every cast) but that suited Stefan who prefers the dry fly. Once again the cleanest water provided fish from some very shallow spots. Stefan took a fine fish of about 16’’ that regurgitated a 4” fish. As Ed Herbst says “big fish eat small fish” Another issue that comes to mind is, how old was the 4”fish? Are some of the local fish not spawning outside the winter months? All fish were taken on the RAB or Edhammer.
